Pain Assessment
Pain is a personal experience, and every experience is unique. It is not just a physical sensation but it is bound up with an emotional response and an act of reasoning; this is why pain is known as a "multi-dimensional experience". Pain also has physical and emotional consequences; it can make us lead to fatigue, irritability, depression, or inability to carry out activities of daily living. Unaddressed chronic pain ultimately affects social and economic well-being, restricting work and social activities.
PURPOSE OF PAIN ASSESSMENT:
A pain assessment is conducted to:
> Understand and respect the "Scope of Practice".
> Detect and describe the pain to help in the holistic healthcare process.
> Understand the cause of the pain to help determine the most effective natural & therapeutic treatments and duration.
CLIENT PARTICIPATION:
Clients vary in their ability to lead or participate in discussions about their pain and therapists need to consider this before choosing the most appropriate assessment strategy. Self-report of pain using a guided question set is the best way to assess pain. Clients must verbally report pain using a “pain scale”. The Pain Scale has been endorsed by many healthcare providers as an effective tool for pain management not just to heal the pain but also for future pain prevention.

OVER TO YOU!
All of us have experienced both mild and severe pains in our bodies at some point. However, many of us tend to ignore these pains and continue with our daily lives. Physical pain often serves as a warning sign from our bodies, prompting us to seek attention. Even mild pain should never be dismissed, as it may escalate into a more severe condition over time. The longer you wait to address the pain, the longer it may take to heal, and the more costly the treatment might become. Allow us to assess your pains, whether to facilitate healing or to prevent future discomfort. Get in touch with us now!
